10 Book Marketing Ideas For Almost Anyone

1.    In advance of the book’s availability, offer to be interviewed by local and regional media.

2.    Your book’s title, your name, and the overarching subject are important components of your “brand.” A brand strategy will keep you building momentum, increasing exposure, and establishing credibility for events and developments.

3.    Ask for endorsements of your book, you personally, or even just the importance of your topics. These will increase the reach of social media posts, and others' posts.

4.    Target key influencers and send them a free book and a letter asking for their support or suggesting the use of your services. Organizations with even indirect connections with your book’s topics are also valuable targets AND valuable customers. “Nothing sells a book quite like a book.” They are a powerful means of conveying your perfectly articulated expertise. Additionally, people will almost never throw a book in the trash. They hang around on their desk or table. People’s estimation of your value increases substantial by virtue of you having a book.

5.    Have a launch party and take pictures. Invite local media or send them the pics and names of individuals. Sell your signed copies of your book. Have other parties and gatherings that include your church community, business influences, etc. Let others sponsor them and, by doing so, get their help in promoting it, as well.

6.    Engage Social Media. Focus on your book, your company, etc. Separate the personal from the professional. Post important, helpful, and insightful content. You want to be quoted and your content to be shared. Use hashtags and add your website. Try directly responding to some people in the feed.

7.    Secure your URL (or even 2 or 3) that is relevant to your title and your brand. Build at least a simple website with landing pages, a shopping cart, and the means for visitors to get free downloads and connect directly with you. Email addresses should be required for a free download. Email lists are valuable!

8.    Develop a short series of videos with questions. Refer to it as your “course.” Offer a free journal to anyone who buys a book and subscribes to the course.

9.    Start a podcast and name it for your book. Work through the chapters of your book. Any time the topic of any of your episodes becomes relevant or the topic of news, post it to your social media accounts. Have guests. They can help promote your podcast.

10. Propose special editions. Offer to produce a customized edition of your book. Everything is changeable. Content can be added/removed, and covers redesigned. CEOs, book club members, professional or trade organizations, event organizers, etc., are prime targets. ONLY authors WITH books can compete on this level.
